Businesses are increasingly being discovered through AI-powered search experiences, where people ask a question and receive a summarized answer with links to sources. Being mentioned is not something a company can guarantee. The practical starting point is making your business information useful, clear, and accessible to search engines and people.
What does AI search visibility mean?
AI search visibility is the ability for your public business information to be found and understood, and for your pages to be considered as supporting sources in AI-generated answers. It is related to SEO: Google says its AI search features use the same foundational search practices, and pages need to be eligible to appear in Google Search.
There is no special file, schema type, or wording pattern that guarantees a citation. Treat AI visibility as a result to measure over time, not a position you can promise.
1. Make your important pages crawlable
Start with the basics. Your service pages should load successfully, allow search engines to crawl them, and include the important information as readable text. Link to them from relevant pages using normal links with real URLs. Keep your sitemap and canonical URLs accurate, then use Search Console to check that Google can access the pages.
Google’s guidance on AI features says there are no additional technical requirements beyond being eligible for Search. A sitemap can help discovery, but it does not guarantee indexing.
2. Explain exactly what your business does
Write service pages that answer the questions a potential client needs answered before contacting you:
- Who is this service for?
- What business problem does it address?
- What work is included, and what does the process look like?
- What evidence supports your experience?
- What is the next step for a suitable client?
Use precise descriptions instead of broad claims. Make your business name, services, locations, and contact information consistent across your site and the business profiles you manage.
3. Publish specific, useful expertise
Choose real questions from sales conversations, project inquiries, and customer research. Answer the question directly, explain the steps, and include examples that show how the advice works. Original experience, clear explanations, and relevant evidence give readers more value than another generic overview.
Google recommends creating helpful, reliable, people-first content. Publishing more often is not a substitute for adding useful knowledge. Review information when it changes, and avoid making claims you cannot support.
4. Connect related information
Link articles to the service pages they explain, and link service pages to useful examples or guides. Descriptive link text helps visitors understand where a link goes and helps search engines discover your pages. Add clear headings so people can scan the answer, but write naturally for your audience.
5. Measure what is happening
Use Google Search Console to review indexing, search queries, and clicks. Bing Webmaster Tools also provides an AI Performance report for supported AI experiences. Track which pages attract qualified visits and which actions visitors take, such as opening a project form or subscribing to the Learning Center.
These reports can show visibility and engagement; they cannot promise that an AI tool will cite or recommend your business. Use what you learn to improve the pages people actually need.
A practical place to begin
Pick one important service page. Make its audience, value, process, and evidence clear. Link to it from a useful article, check that it is crawlable, and monitor it in Search Console. Build from real customer questions and keep improving the information as your service and evidence grow.
